Beading

A thong is a flip-flop is a Jandal.

Here in Australia we call the rubber things worn of the feet - Thongs.

When I was a kid we had thongs that were layered in multi-colours and thicker soled with canvas straps; we called them Jandals to distinguish them from regular thongs. I have also heard thongs called flip-flops. Regularly now I will hear someone speak of their Havianas and when I look down I just see regular thongs - but way more expensive. I guess if you are silly enough inclined to pay about five times as much for your thongs you may like to give them an upmarket name. I realise the brand is Haviana and to my mind it is just like calling your joggers by their brand name (e.g. Nikes) or your canvas shoes by their name (Converse, Chucks) Even good old {cheap} Volleys are often called by their brand name instead of just canvas shoes or runners, but they too are not as inexpensive as they used to be.  ok, I'll get off my soap-box about the over priced brand name clothes that so many are suckered into and get back to the story at hand ...

No matter what their name, thongs are easy foot wear and super useful for the beach or using public bathrooms. What are they called in your locality?

My latest hanger was inspired by the little slip on shoe or dress thong on the bottom... By adding a heel and a bit of bling thongs become dress-up and can be worn out to dinner somewhere (other than the local fast food establishment).

Another thought... we girls can get away with wearing our dressy thongs out to dinner or to the local club but the guys can't get away with it. It isn't fair but since it goes in my favour I won't complain too loud... though I probably should. I digress. Again.

I made a hook for my little thong and attached it to the chain. Then for colours to go with the white and silver I went back to good old red and black.  yep I do keep going back to these colours. In my defence, I still had some of the red and black beads wired form my over enthusiastic making for teen 3, here. but even if I had to start fresh I may just have gone straight to the familiar and safe.

Note the silver bead just above and to the left of the thong. I wanted to make use of some more of the fake pandora beads but they have large holes in them which makes them difficult to use with beads that have smaller holes. To overcome the issue with the hole size I threaded a silver bi-cone bead both sides of the silver cube so that just one side of the cone protruded from each end. I am happy with the effect and my unique bead.
I liked the spiral of the bead cage and didn't have any beads that I wanted to cage so just used bugle beads to do the job and to show off the spiral.
And when laid out flat all the beads can be easily seen including my new silver cube-cone (it reminds me of a top or a dredl or a oh never mind you get the idea).

I would love to get some suggestions for colours or patterns that I could try out - other than my usual tried and trues.

Do you have a colour wheel? Try a game of colour roulette! Spin the wheel and try basing a colour scheme on the colour that comes up--fun:)

We call them slippers. Everyone in Singapore owns at least 1 pair. My home looks like we own a slippers warehouse. I only buy the non-slip ones which cost more but it's worth it because it rains all the time. A lot of times when I go to craft markets to sell, I'm wearing my slippers. I wear the fancy ones tho' - the ones with flowers.

ooow... colour wheel. I can put that to fun use. I tend to mostly use it with my scrapping and haven't thought beyond that. Ta lots for that idea. :)

Jane, I love your comments, I learn so much from you.
Slippers you say.
We have slippers here too only they are warm fluffy soft indoor shoes to keep your feet warm in cold weather. they often have soft soles, although many have hard soles but since they are made of fabric or fur aren't suitable to wear outside the home. I often try to avoid even wearing them to the letter box as the grass will make them wet.

Thanks and keep the feedback coming.
